Almost 2,000 homes across Warsash, Titchfield Common and Locks Heath had a power cut this afternoon after an underground fault in a mains cable.
Scottish and Southern Energy said approximately 1,800 homes were left without power from just after 1pm today following the fault in the cable close to the electricity sub station near the Sir Joseph Paxton pub in Hunts Pond Road, Titchfield Common.
Many homes were reconnected within an hour but by late in the afternoon 131 homes in Robins Meadows, Huntingdon Close, Cyprus Road and Hunts Pond Road were still without electricity.
A Scottish and Southern Energy spokesman said a system called “back-feeding” meant they were able to redirect electricity supplies from another part of the grid to restore power to the majority of houses, and they hoped to have the remaining houses restored by early evening.
“We would like to thank people for thjeir patience while our engineers have worked hard to restore the supplies,” the spokesman added
