A 32-year-old man who took a car without permission drove to a petrol station in Titchfield Common and left without paying has been banned from driving.
Terrance Patrick Braden took his disabled stepfather’s Ford Focus car in Gosport without consent and after driving around for a period of time filled up with fuel at a petrol station in Southampton Road on Christmas Eve last year.
When he went to pay he told staff he did not have money with him for the £25.01 worth of petrol.
He filled in a no-means-of-pay form, but provided incorrect details and left the petrol station.
He was later stopped by police officers in Chichester.
Braden of Elmore Avenue, Lee-on-the-Solent, pleaded guilty to three charges – one of taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, one of using a motor vehicle without third party insurance and one of making off without payment.
Braden was given six penalty points on his driving licence, which, by adding to nine points he already had, meant he was banned from driving for six months.
He was ordered to pay £25.01 compensation to the petrol station and a £15 victim surcharge.
